#WIAW- Curiosity Killed The CoffeeMaker

Have you ever broken something accidentally due to your curiosity? Have you then lied about it and blamed it on “the renters” before you? After lying about it, were you then found out?

Let’s rewind to a few days ago. Location: Long Beach Island, NJ Time: 21:00 hours. In the mood for a nice cup of joe (instead of wine), I decided to head over to the coffee machine in the rental house my family has. If you follow me on instagram (cdean17)– you already know I was bashing the house from Day 1. Shoddy craftsmanship evident everywhere and appliances dating back to the era of cavemen.

I’ll give the owner the location of the place…just a short walk to the beach and a brand new toilet in the garage. (YIPPEE!) But everything else needs an HGTV renovation. (insert prissy judgements here.)

So I go over to this fine young thing-

I'm old. Be nice!

and I proceed to fill up the water, insert coffee filter, coffee, and brew. Well, it began sputtering about halfway into brewing, which lead to a mess and some major frustration on my end. I began hitting the area where the filter is and wouldn’t you know…it broke!

I don’t know if you can tell from the picture, but it surely was not your standard coffee maker. I would imagine that even The Wizards of Waverly Place wouldn’t be able to wave a wand and create the perfect brew without a catastrophe.

This all happened not due to my NEED or WANT of coffee at that time of night, but my sheer curiosity. Reason number one why I’m not a big risk taker: I break things and can’t fix them. Whoops.

Besides all that, I have some delicious eats for you to be curious about…

Let’s begin with some breakfasts…I told you last week I’m a recovering smoothie-holic, so I’m transitioning over to oats. Perfect timing for fall with this pumpkin oats concoction. It looks like it’d be 1000 cals, but in reality it was around 270. Yee-Haw!

I also had this super boring looking vanilla chai oats bowl with some PB2, flax seed, and blueberries on the side.

 Oh and these steel cut oats for my mother. Love presentations with fruit!

Snack staples:

Lately- it’s been lots of 3 ingredient hodgepodges.

Spinach, Onions, & Mushrooms with sea salt, EVOO, and peppah

Corn, Sweet Potato, & Onion

Peach, Tomato, & Corn

And these…black bean brownies. Why have I waited so long to make you? I was able to fool two people into eating them- but being the sugarholics that they are- they weren’t a fan of them. So I guess that’s half a win. Recipe will be up tomorrow!

Ok and maybe I lied…ONE protein smoothie, but I split it with the boyfriend so that’s like nothing.


Black coffee with a drink charm. I tried to convince myself that the drink charm would distract me from the taste. Didn’t work.

Out to dinner(s):

Seafood bonanza– When down the shore, seafood is a must. The bf and I ordered a lump crab cake, flounder stuffed with crab imperial, New England clam chowdah, and sides of green salad with some frenchie fries. SO AMAZING.

Avocado Club from my fave vegan spot in LBI (Living on The Veg). It had sprouts, cucumber, carrots, avocado, and romaine with a side potato salad made with veganaise. Mouth watering.

A few new things I found at the store:

Nutffles? These taste similarly to Ferrero Rocher. Nothing to write home about.

Doctor Kracker- Pumpkin Seed Cheddar Flatbreads. I topped these babies with some veggie cream cheese and it was an instant flavor party!

  2. That sucks about the coffee pot; I hit things that don’t work too thinking that that will fix it. I usually have no luck with that approach, but I keep trying!

    I love black bean brownies, and totally don’t care if no one else wants my no sugar version……just more for me!

    Great eats this week, love the whole fruits and veggies for snacks! I’ve been having a mix of fruit and veggies too and just can’t get enough. I just started to try being gluten-free since I’m having problems linking to an intolerance and have made many versions of granola that I’m addicted to.

  4. How did I miss this post?!?! My house has been crazy with a revolving door of four legged kids that I’m overwhelmed with trying to keep up on my blogging, working out (not to mention running :/ ), meal planning, and posting on all social platforms. Did I mention work? That’s a stress subject all it’s own. 🙁 I’ve been so far behind on my blog reading and I’m catching up now. Forgive me? If I had known you didn’t have your coffee, I would have sent you some! From one coffee addict to another 🙂
