*EAT LIKE ME*- January 6- Pre-Happy Hour Late Lunch Nosh

TGIF! You have made it through the first official week of 2012! Cheers to the freakin’ weekend! That cosmopolitan is waiting for you somewhere and so are all the bar eats that come along with it!

I think it’s super important to balance your meals out before a happy hour or night on the town. Even if you only have 1-2 drinks, you need fuel for all those awkward hit-ons, dance-offs, and cab rides home.

Most people I have noticed tend to starve themselves before a night out or only eat a piece of bread. I’ll admit- having nothing in your stomach will have you feeling tipsy in just a few short sips, but you’ll end up paying the price later on.

Alcohol is a depressant as we all know. This means a slow reaction time and most importantly the beer goggles effect. While it is a depressant, it also induces a stimulation cycle within your body. Your hypothalamus (located in the brain) is in control of your appetite. As you consume more alcohol, your inhibitions come down, thus triggering the after hours binge. However, studies I have read have shown if you eat a fully balanced meal before drinking, you should not have this problem. This is common sense.

I’m sure someone out there will be sipping their woes away tonight, so I focused my late-lunch towards them.

I chose to use my Boca Spicy Chik’n Patties. In all honesty, they smell like rotten ranch dressing when heated, but the taste is magnificent! Worth the stench!

I didn’t have time to chop up the patty into my salad so I just ate it whole and bunless. As you can see, I also used chickpeas as a side. The chickpeas and Boca contain high protein, which will help you reserve fuel for later.

Oh and the mustard-like substance- that is simply spicy brown mustard mixed with pure honey, since I am not a huge ketchup fan.

Ok, onto my favorite part: the sweets of it all! For an extra punch of protein and also fruit servings, I chose to make a Fruit & Nut Puree. It has a smoothie consistency, so feel free to just drink it straight if you want!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fat free milk
  • 1/2 scoop Muscle Milk Chocolate protein powder
  • 8 shelled walnuts
  • 5 chunks frozen mango
  • 3 strawberries
  • 1 tbsp. Warm Cinnamon Sugar Cookie Creamer
  • 1/2 of an Oreo

After blending all together, I chose to pour it over a Van’s Multigrain pancake, topped with oreo crumbles. (Seriously can I go just one meal without chocolate?…… They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said no, no no)

The combination of the chik’n patty, chickpeas, and the puree will ensure you have enough to keep you going longer than the Energizer bunny. It may even limit your number of drinks (plus for your waistline!)

(Yes, those are bite marks. They add to the humanity of it all. )

End Note: I would say have something like this meal about 1-2 hours before drinking.
