#WIAW- Falling Into Apple Orchards and Pumpkin Flavor

If you have a strong distaste for apple or pumpkin, I’d advise you to turn back. This WIAW is heavily biased towards those two power houses. Onward, shall we?

The past week and a half has been a roller coaster scarier than Kingda Ka during a lightning storm. Most of my highs have been met with immediate lowest of lows, and I’m still trying to find the middle ground in all of this.

I have to say, I do prefer chaos over boredom, but the limbo stick act needs to quit. Do you hear me Life?

Now…I am a notorious fall hater. I’m opposite of every Northeasterner because I pretty much remain a hermit from September to April. I am allergic to cold, leaves, and even that short walk from the gym to the car on those chilled autumn nights. Don’t even get me started on winter, unless you want some tears. (I swear I was born on a boat heading to Miami and abducted during transport to New Jersey.)

It’s not all sadness when it comes to fall though…because a girl’s gotta eat. I always welcome apples and pumpkins into my life because they are warm-hearted and lots of recipes are able to be made out of both.

So we’ll save the pumpkins and apple parts, for the grand finale of the post. Let’s talk what else I ate before all of that…

First things first…I have a confession…I haven’t been cutting back on the dairy as much as I’d like to. How the hell do you say no to Chobani?

CHO-TINI'S- Rolled Cinnamon Oats, Plain Chobani, Chocolate Chips

CHO-TINI with pumpkin, pecan butter, oats, and strawberries

Half bitten Kashi Blueberry Waff with...you guessed it CHOBANI and diced apple with cinnamon, nutmeg, and PAPRIKA?! Odd but good!

New staple in my fridge. No questions or rebuttals.

CHO-FAIT! Used the new Chobani flip with cut up apple, banana, pumpkin seeds, and cookie nookie butter

Next up…some “fried” bananas in coconut oil. You thought bananas tasted sweet before frying? Well, if you have a hunkering for some cake, try frying up some of these instead. Brings out the sweetness 1000 times more!

"Fried" Bananas with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a few bits of shredded coconut

YES. These have been serving as my pre-workout snack.

Next up…we have some dinners. Portobello pizzas. I used to make these like a pro when I was a kid. It’s literally been over 10 years since I’ve had one. Food rekindling is the greatest.

Portobello Mushroom pizza with mozz, marinara, and fresh basil

I am trying grass fed beef out again on my stomach. It’s so far been a pleasant experience. Oh and guess I couldn’t contain my pumpkin excitement for the end…

I Spy: Yes, that's right...PUMPKIN Seeds

Dinner is never complete without a good hodgepodge…

Veggie Rainbow

When my mom cooks, I usually devour and then have a self loathing party after. These taste like how tomatoes from the store SHOULD taste. (They are farm purchased and 10X better quality.)

Farm picked tomatoes with EVOO, gahhlic, and sea salt

And oh yes, for those of you who know me well, I ALWAYS count any breakfast as any meal of the day. LINNER or BRINNER included.

Pumpkin Banana Oatcakes Topped w/ Agave & Banana Chips

I actually had the following for breakfast, lunch, and dinner one day. See? I wasn’t kidding.

Oh yeah, it's gettin' real juicy now!

These actually were for breakfast…

Rolled Oats with Strawberry Vanilla "Frosting" & Pecan Butter

Kashi Blueberry Waffle with Blueberry vanilla smoothie over top

This was a recipe I dabbled with a few times. I’m not heavy into flours anymore, so I’m trying to make the most of what I have to work with. I know the flavor combo sounds odd, but these were actually not half bad. (Still needs some tweaking though) YAY ZUCCHINI that was sitting in my fridge for a week neglected. You have a life purpose!

Cinnamon Honey Zucchini Bread

Forgive me for I have sinned. I am not a boxed kind of baking girl, but sometimes when Wal-Mart has sales on pumpkin things for $1.25, you MUST throw away all your morals.

I leave you with a foreshadowing of what tomorrow’s post has in store…think hard! 😉

I totally bit the apple ladies. MORE than one.

Maybe I over hyped the whole apples and pumpkin thing. I have eaten more than I have taken photos of…TRUST ME. It’s becoming such an obsession that even Klout thinks I’m influential in both foods. So thanks, fall!

What kind of habits are you trying to “fall” into? Are you a fall person or a spring/summer person?

Peace, love, and fall foods!

I saw someone on instagram do this and also several blogs. The way I did it was used coconut oil, fry up the bananas (3-4 min each side) and then top with shredded coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg. It’s seriously my newest obsession!

  14. I totally made these this past weekend. *drool*
