Foodie Pen Pals #5- A Girl After My Own Heart

Ring, ring, ring! Ring, ring, ring! Hello? Aren’t you going to answer it?

Ok fine, I will. “What’s that you say? Foodie pen pal reveal day?” *eyes widen and gasps ensue* “Get to your computer screens everyone!”

Yeah, so I was terrible at writing screenplays and scene directions in my school days…but on with the show!

The Lean Green Bean

Ok, it’s time! Foodie pen pals reveal day is here once again. Easily my most favorite time of the month.

I received my package from Kattreena– who doesn’t have a blog (yet…but should definitely invest in beginning one soon).

As you know, I have a weak spot/intense magnetic addiction for chocolate. If I try suppressing the brown eyed monster, it comes back with a vengeance and makes me consume not only chocolate, but other “c” words as well. (carbs, cheese)

Luckily, I am human and have no relation to the lochness monster, jersey devil, or zombies for that matter. Instead, I opt for the safer, more subdued, less folklore-y icon…Cookie Monster! He has probably come the closest to understanding my immense passion for chocolate/sweets.

Alas, Kattreena’s package did NOT disappoint. When I see chocolate, it’s almost as if I have met my soulmate. That cheesy beach love run in movies is exactly how I feel when I first set eyes upon it. (I guess we can blame that lovely “feel good” chemical, dopamine.) Well, needless to say, it happened once again when I opened the package!

Here’s what I received:

-Gensoy Sweet Crisps (Chocolate)

-Chocolate Raisins

-Giant Cranberry/Chocolate Trail Mix

-Justin’s PB cups

-Late July Dark Chocolate Cookies

-Handwritten note (PS- I am jealous of your neat handwriting!)

What was my favorite snack? I’d have to say the trail mix. We don’t have a Giant Eagle chain of supermarkets in Jersey, but this was topnotch. It was Cranberry/Chocolate and I literally melted when I ate it. The chocolate was actual squares instead of morsels, so more flavor per bite!

I used some of the chocolate soy crisps over my smoothies and breakfast bowls in the morning. I am usually not into soy of any kind, but these were fab!

I want to give a big thank you to Kattreena! You knocked this out of the park!

I suggest you all follow Kattreena (@KJewels_) too as she has some scrumptious twit pics!

Also check out what I sent to Sarah who blogs over at Sarah Learns!

Interested in participating in foodie pen pals?

Here are the details:

On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

– Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

***If you’re in Europe, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at to get involved!

What’s your biggest food vice? Do you have a love/hate relationship with any particular foods?

Peace, love, and foodie pen pals!
