#FitBlogNYC: Nothing Short of AHHH-MAZING!

I don’t think there are enough exclamation points or screaming emoticons to describe my FitBlogNYC experience. I am thanking the fitness gods (and of course Fitness mag & sponsors) for allowing me to attend.

For those of you who diligently read my blog, you’ll know I’m fairly new. I don’t have the slightest clue about HTML, coding, or widgets. I used to obsess over page views in the first month (I’m an impatient Ida!) but now I do it all for me. I treat this like a journal or a formal job. Bottom line…I freakin’ LOVE it!

May 9th’s experience is one I’ll never forget. It truly reminds me why I don’t belong in PR sweating over every little thing my client may or may not say during a media interview. No thanks, I’ll stick to sweating in the gym ONLY. I was extremely sad when this event ended. Time really does fly when you’re having fun!

Things I’ve Learned: (Let’s begin with the morning— pre-event)

1) I hate waking up. Doesn’t matter if it’s 4 AM, 10 AM, or 2 PM. It’s embedded in my blood to absolutely despise it.

2) Coffee & Chobani makes everything better.

3) Read signs before walking into the wrong building. (Sometimes I am so Cher from Clueless.)

Event arrival:

Shoutouts to Karina & Nicole– loved meeting you girls!

Just a few of the sponsor tables: (Reebok, Oakley, Schick, & V8)

Honestly, every single sponsor was my favorite. All the staff at each table were so attentive and helpful.

Who says Birks are dead? (Tiffany from the Birkenstock table) –

Mia Hamm was right after this… No big deal, right?? (Ignore my drabby hair- it was pretty wild from all that NYC humidity.)

Lunch Time, Snack Swag + The Speaker:

The speaker, Dr. Pamela Peeke, @PamPeekeMD spoke to us about why eating less and moving more is “so last year.” She has a new book coming out- which I’m super interested in reading. (Mainly because I’m a sugar addict.) The Hunger Fix: The 3 Stage Detox and Recovery Plan for Overeating and Food Addiction. (Available in September!)

Afternoon Speakers:

Argy K. @argystyle with Fitness Magazine- Gym To Street Fashion Show (PS- Argy has lost 60 pounds over the past 10 years!) She told us not to wait and shop for when we’re at our ideal weight. It’s better to shop now, you can always alter later! Her shirt was a prime example as she bought it when she was heavier and now cinched the waist and it’s totally still wearable and in style!

Laura Geller @laurageller & Fitness Beauty Director- Eleanor Langston

Laura is hilarious. I’ve seen her on QVC before- so vivacious and relatable.

Most important make-up product to splurge on: a good foundation (lol this is japanese to me as usually I’m an eyes and lips kind of girl, but good for future reference)

Onto the speakers I was most anticipating: Founder of Fitfluential- Kelly Olexa @kellyolexa, Carla Birnberg @mizfitonline, Tina Haupert @carrotsncake, and @pbfingers – Julie Fagan

I loved that they constructed this information session backwards. Instead of rehashing what we already kn0w- (Kelly is the founder of Fitfluential and Carla, Julie, and Tina are all very well-known bloggers), they jumped straight into Q&A. The most important things said were be proactive, don’t get discouraged if you get “no” for an answer multiple times from a company you’d like to work for, have a plan before approaching said companies, and don’t worry about page views. BE YOURSELF!

I hope to one day soon become a part of this amazing and inspiring team of individuals. #teamFitFluential!!!

Obviously, all this meeting and tweeting had everyone’s smart phones in need of a charge. Towards the end of the event there were literally NO OUTLETS left. It had me in a social media panic.

I’ll just have to leave you with words (or maybe no words) for the KiwiSweat pop up tabura workout. If you’re not familiar- tabura is a combo of african dance and kickboxing moves. The instructor was amazing! I loved how interactive she was. I left there a sweaty mess! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Seriously- if you’re in the NYC area– give their workouts a try! They have all different kinds. Visit their website for more info: http://www.kiwisweat.com/

All of the sponsors and speakers are on twitter- so follow them if you’re not already!

Lessons Learned After The Event:

1) KNOW your subways. When all else fails, hail a taxi!

2) I think we can put the word “swag” to rest.

3) Kelly Olexa has excellent taste in shoes.

4) I heart that I was in my comfort zone when taking pictures. Sometimes it’s a challenge when you’re in public and snap shots of your food and workouts. No judgments at this event as everyone was doing the same!

5) More outlets, more outlets, more outlets. (for those phone chargers of course)

I leave you with a few peaks of THE SWAG: (separate post to come)

Again- shoutouts to ALL sponsors and NMS Strategies for making this event superb! (Reebok, Birkenstock, Oakley, Sun Maid, KiwiSweat, Go With The Grain, Pure Protein, VICHY, Camelbak, Schick, Camelbak, V8)

Stay Tuned for a swagtacular post tomorrow!

What was everyone’s favorite part of Fit Blog?

Peace, love, and awesome!

Great post! Like you I’m a few months new to blogging so I was honored to attend this AWESOME event. I’ve been to these types of events before (where I paid to attend) and didn’t come away with nearly as much awesome information as I did at #fitblogNYC. The event strucure was awesome, great atmosphere, and everyone was so welcoming and friendly! I can’t wait to do it again!

    • choc3178 says:

me too! This was seriously the GREATEST thing ever! Hopefully I’ll see you at the next one or even before then!

It was an amazing event! Great meeting you as well 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  5. I’m so totally jealous! Oh and that lemonade looks totally awesome! It was a lemonade, right?!??

I actually just took a step towards the fitfluential by signing up to be a member for the newsletter. I don’t feel that I’m anywhere close to be a blogger for fifluential much less any ambassador. My blog is so versatile that I’m not even sure it would qualify. Although, I have been wanted to move more towards blogging about fitness and health. I just don’t know where to start. I’m not a certified instructor or anything but I love talking about working out and health to others, I just can’t seem to bring myself to putting it down on the blog. What do you think?

    • choc3178 says:

Yes. Lemonade it was! Fitfluential is honestly one of the greatest fitness environments to become a part of. I am not an ambassador yet either. I signed up to become one about 6 months ago and am anxiously awaiting the day when I receive word back!

My blog varies- just like yours does. I only mention fitness about once per week on here. From what I’ve seen, most ambassadors don’t solely focus on fitness either. As long as your blog relates to creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, I am sure that is all that matters. A lot of people simply share their workouts on their blog- nothing too fancy. I think it would be best to keep your blog how it is, but improvements are always awesome! Maybe start with a few fitness posts and see what happens from there. I have found that once you begin one idea (in relation to blogging) others seem to flourish. BTW- I love your dog. I know I have already said this, but it needed to be said again, lol.
