#MotivationalMondays- Change of Scenery Workout

Have you ever gone on vacation and thought, “Wow- I could totally pack up and move here?” (After a few mojitos and some nice sun kissed skin of course). Then, reality sets in after the sand is washed off and that snorkel trip becomes a permanent memory framed on your desk.

Sometimes a change of scenery is like changing your spot in exercise class. It gives you a fresh start- a whole new perspective. You now view your instructor in 3D and officially know how to perform warrior 2 properly- now that you’re not eclipsed by a the 6 foot tall man in spandex in front of you.

I experienced a change of scenery this past weekend. It came in the form of an exhilarating whisper, “You’re not really supposed to be here, as you have to be invited…but I guess we’ll let it slide this one time.

I’ve always been a sucker to belong to a secret society, so I had to quiet my unyielding anticipation after that sentence was spoken. It’s all so exciting that I almost forgot to mention where this took place.

It’s called RWJ- Robert Wood Johnson in Scotch Plains, NJ. RWJ is actually a hospital in New Brunswick, but they built this gorgeous fitness/wellness facility as a complement. (and to make some extra vacation money, I am sure!) (I believe there’s also one in Mercerville.)

My boyfriend has been “secretly” sneaking in for the past couple of weeks. Making sure the staff is regularly rotated to ensure his workout missions would not be foiled.

I’ve been wanting to check this place out ever since it was built…3 years ago! How’s that for a build up to a climax?

Anyway- I walked in around 3 and didn’t walk out until around 5:15. This is an hour over what I’d normally spend on a workout- but come on- if you are a sucker for secrets and state of the art machines- you would do it too!

So why is it so exclusive? You have to be invited. Not in a “you’re so not popular if you’re not sweating it out here…as if” kind of way, but in more of a “I’m willing to have you drain my bank account because this is like going to the dollar store for the 99%.” kind of way. If that makes any sense…

The first question we were asked was…”Who referred you to us?” Followed by a long pause and a second, “Who referred you to us?”. This wasn’t an opt out of one of those online how did you hear about us surveys, so I wasn’t able to just hit submit and move on.

We were forced to tell the truth. “No one.” That’s when the line of my dreams was heard. (See above.)

I’d like to share my workout with you. Since I never am able to get a spot at the weight rack in my YMCA, I figured on an empty Saturday afternoon and at a place where no one knew my name, this was a recipe for success.

I began with a 2.14 mile run (my warm-up/cardio) and then headed to the weight section.

Here I was greeted with some of my favorite fitness brand names…Precor, Life Fitness, Nautilus…just to name a few.

This is the workout I did…

Targets: Back, Abs, Biceps, Chest, Inner/Outer Thigh, Glutes

Here’s our PROOF:

I ended with some cardio and stretching afterwards. Oh…and this thing and I are absolutely in the beginning stages of romance. BTW. L-O-V-E!

What do you do to change or keep the spark going in your workouts?

Peace, love, and change!

I love the arc trainer. I do this machine 2-3 times a week. I love it.
